Duhok city is the third largest city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It borders both Syria and Turkey. Duhok City is situated between two mountain chains, Shandukha from the south and Spi from the north. The majority of the citizens are Kurds who live peacefully with Chaldean, Assyrian, Armenian and Yazidi minorities. Duhok is famous for its historical sites in which sculpture could be seen on the rocks. It is a modern city the Kurdish called Duhoky Rangin. There are tens of restaurant, hotels, motels, historical and folkloric museums and Yazidic cultural museum. The city embraces Duhok University, American University and other cultural centers.

Amedi
is a small, beautiful town built on a mountain plateau. It is situation 90 km northeast of Duhok, about one and half hours by car. The citadel was built was built over 1,000 years ago and is still home to 5,000 inhabitants. Many of the houses still have their original stonework and are arranged in circular form inside the citadel. The town has many historic sites, including the Old Mosque that is still used by residents, and the Old Gate that was used until a new car-friendly road was built in the town.

Amedi is home to several historic sites. The Old Gate lies to the west of the Citadel and the Old Mosque is at the center of the town. The Minaret, the Dome and the Zoroastrain Gate are also worth a visit. For centuries, Amedi was the capital of the Badinan Emirate, until the end of the Ottoman Empire, and the tombs of some Emirs are still located inside the town.

is located 100 KM east of Duhok it is on the way to Erbil city the town has built on the side of a mountain range by the Kurdish Prince Zand in 580 B.C. it is rich in historical site, such as temples, statues and ancient buildings and mineral spring can be found near the town. The Akre citadel lies on top of the mountain the town is built about 450 m above the valley. it consists of several generous built level the upper is round meeting hall and flat rock in the middle. The citadel has four pillars, a water cistern and an eagle-like room which is called the Jail. Also Akre has various beautiful waterfall named Sipa Waterfall located only 1 KM from East it is 18 meters high.

This resort lies 13 km East of Akre. The waterfall is located in the center of Bjail village, 500 meter away from the road to Qandil. This resort is located in a valley with different fruit trees. The waterfall is fed of several springs which flow from the high surrounding mountains. Facilities are built for tourists; an artificial cave behind the waterfall and different restaurants.

This beautiful site is on the foot of Peris Mountain, 8 km East of Dinarta and 32 Km from Akre. From a mountain gorge water flows over a 50 meter high waterfall and into willow trees. There is another water resource that flows from the same mountain. Picnic areas are set up for tourists to enjoy the scenery.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Gailani
The Shrine of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Gailani
This shrine is located west of the town of Akre, at the top of a valley, filled with trees, vines and orchards. Tens of thousands of visitors from India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey, visit the shrine of Sheikh Abdul Aziz, the son of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Gailani of the Qadiriya order. In 1187, Sheikh Abdul Aziz participated in the liberation of Jerusalem, led by Saladin.

The Qubhan School was one of the first Islamic schools in the Kurdistan Region. The school’s ruins are situated northeast of the town, amid a tree-filled garden. The school was built in the 17th century for the study of Islamic Sciences. Many Imams and Sheikhs have studied at this school and it was open for several hundred years.

Sarsang
Sarsang is a touristic town on the northern side of Gara Mountain, just 50 km northeast of Duhok. The town has many trees and lies at the foot of the mountain. There are hotels, motels, restaurants, and a large market. King Faysal built a castle in Sarsing, which is open to visitors. Other touristic towns, including Ashawa, Anishki, and Sulav, are nearby.
